Fractal Block World

Ancient History
A long time ago, about in 2006 or so, Zach Barth asked me if
I would like to help him make a program called
Infinifrag 2!
I said I would love to!
We worked on it about a year,
then Zach stopped because he thought the scope
of the project was too large.
The next year Zach went on to make Infiniminer
which inspired Minecraft,
and the rest is history.
But I took the code I was working on for the project
and used it for my own project called Block Arena.
That did not go too far, although I worked on it for
many many hours and I learned a ton.
Then at some point I created a separate project called
Fractal Block World.
When Zach and I were working on Infinifrag 2,
he asked me if a block based game could have a level
of detail system.
His question stuck with me and my program
Fractal Block World is one answer to this question.
In 2012 I made significant progress on the
engine for Fractal Block World.
I went on to work on the engine for many years.
University of Denver Arcade 2017
I spent 3 years at the University of Denver (DU)
as a postdoc.
The Fractal Block World game was first debuted at the
University of Denver Arcade (DU Arcade)
in 2017.
In that version, you could explore the Ying World
and shoot monsters.
Moving entities were just added to the engine
in their simplest form.
Many of the weapons were there at that point.
I am not sure how much of the map was there.
University of Denver Arcade 2018
At the 2018 DU Arcade I was given a very generous
location with a big sceen!
The game was in a more complete form,
but still the demo was focusing on the
Ying World part of the map.
It was at this point (just after the DU Arcade)
that I released a demo version of the game to the public.
I released
Version 0.90.0
on my webpage.
This version includes only the Ying World for the map.
You can find this as the
2018 Demo
Version on my webpage.
